Open Letter from our Founder and CEO, Matt Roy
Dear Friends,
After 18 amazing years turning my dream into a reality at WSBC, I’ve decided it’s time for me to retire and move on to other passions and pursuits.
From those of you who’ve been onboard since we were slinging homebrew out of the basement, to those who’ve just recently discovered us, I want to express a huge heartfelt thanks for everything you’ve meant to us on this journey. As many of you know, I started homebrewing when my kids were little, running circles around the brew kettle in the basement. That hobby turned into a passion, and that passion into an obsession, and eventually a business. And when WSBC got big enough, I finally left my corporate career to run it full time. It was the smartest thing I’ve ever done, and I’ve met some of the best people I’ve ever known, and made lifelong friends as a result. But just like those little kids have grown up, moved out, and started careers of their own, it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter too.
What does all this mean for the brewery? It means exciting changes are coming! Although I can’t share all the details yet, we’ve made plans to sell the brewery assets to a buyer who has known us for years and shares all our passion for great craft beer and spirits. And trust me when I say they have some amazing plans in store. In addition to maintaining some of your favorite flagship WSBC products, they are planning new brands and all sorts of new offerings – not just in craft beer, but also in seltzers, canned cocktails, bottled spirits and more! Additionally, the Brewery and Tap Room will eventually undergo major renovations to bring you a wider choice of offerings, quicker service, and an elevated customer experience.
“But wait,” you’re asking, “Does that mean the Tap Room will have to shut down?” Well, the answer is “Yes, for a bit.” When WSBC shuts down and the new business starts to transform the space, everybody will have to clear out to make room for the construction crews. But that won’t be happening for a while. We’ll be switching to a limited food menu at the end of November, and the Tap Room will remain open until spring when the license transfer is expected. So we still have all winter to raise a glass together before the transition.
And the distribution business will continue uninterrupted, which means you’ll still be able to find all your favorite WSBC products at your local pubs, restaurants, and liquor stores.
So let’s make the most of these next few months – to share a beer together, laugh about all the good times we’ve had, and toast to the future. Great things are in store for 2019 W Stadium and I can’t wait to see where it goes – only this time I’ll be sitting on the same side of the bar as you!
